Hot Springs Palea Kameni
Back to all places
Situated within the picturesque Aegean Sea, the Hot Springs Palea Kameni offers a captivating experience infused with geological history and natural marvels. These thermal springs, a result of ancient volcanic activity, have intrigued visitors for generations.
The island of Palea Kameni, which translates to "Old Burnt Island," was formed around 1570 BC during a significant volcanic eruption. Notably, in 1950, another eruption sculpted further changes to the landscape, accentuating the island’s rugged charm.
A swim in these warm, mineral-rich waters, colored by distinctive golden hues due to sulfur, not only provides a soothing experience but also a direct connection to the earth’s primordial forces at work. The therapeutic nature of the springs has been known since the Hellenistic period, making it a site of historical durability and natural beauty.
Visitors are also likely to enjoy the panoramic view of the surrounding islands and the quaint white-washed architecture of the nearby settlements, reminiscent of classical Greek design.
